Michigan Updated State FOIA Law Requirements Asking Requesters to be More Specific

The Michigan legislature passed two important amendments to its state FOIA law. The first asks requesters to include more detailed contact information, including a full name, address, phone number, and email address. Requests that just use a first name could be be denied. The second lets public bodies ask for all or part of fee deposits up front. FOIA requesters will have to be more careful about how they send their requests.
